The Sunday Telegraph complete an article about the Quirky Kid Tickets a couple of weeks ago. You can read to the full story below or you can visit The Telegraph website. This resource has been incredibly popular at our clinic and we have experience great feedback from parents.
Quirky Kid does not entirely agrees with the language used in the article, but this is how the article was published by The Telegraph.
A SYDNEY firm is urging parents to use special scratch and win cards to modify kids’ behaviour.
Designed by Kimberley O’Brien, a child psychologist at the Quirky Kid clinic, the cards encourage goals to improve naughty habits.
“They’re portable and you give them a reward on the spot. It’s good for any sort of behavioural issue.”
Not everyone agrees the cards, which cost $35, are a good idea – Mosman child behaviour expert Dr Fiona Martin said they aren’t suitable for young children.
“Pre-school age is too young; they might not be reinforcing on the child if they don’t understand what they are doing,” she said.
But Wollongong couple Kayley Roach, 35, a finance analyst, and her husband Bernard, 33, a medical practitioner, say the coupons do work. They’ve been using them with their son Cohen, 3, who has mild autism, and daughter Isabelle, 5.
Ms Roach said that Cohen had a problem with “accidents” prior to going to the toilet. After Cohen started using the scratchies he improved immediately.
“He carries the card around because he is proud. Isabelle gets tickets for making her bed. The cards have been brilliant.”
